This directory contains two kinds of file: templates and prototypes. Templates have the extension .htt and are expanded in place of a tag. Prototypes have the extension .ht and are expanded in place of a directory or CGI request -- for example, dir-index.ht is expanded in response to a request for a directory; not-found.ht is expanded in response to a "file not found" error.

It is, of course, expected that you will edit these files to suit your own website. Whether you open the directory to upload and edit requests, and hence allow other people to edit your templates, is of course up to you, but we don't recommend it in most cases.
